Lindsay Hassett has been named Geelong’s most outstanding international sportsman or women, by author John Craven.
Craven selected 100 Geelong Region all-time international sports greats and Brownlow Medallists and Hassett is No1, ahead of John sandy and Russell Mockridge.
Geelong has produced eight test cricketers – nine if jack Iverson is alsop included (He schooled in Geelong).
Coronation tour captain Hassett is rated No 1, Ian Redpath is at No. 6, Aaron Finch No. 13, Alan Connolly No. 17, and Paul Sheahan No. 20. Each of the cricketers has a lengthy essay. Hassett’s entry is 18 pages and is subtitled: Larrikin, warrior, statesman.
The book flows happy to 780 pages and is a Sofback. At $40 it is fantastic value. Recommended.
